Lesson 6: Skills 2
A. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
I. Knowledge:
- listen for detailed and specific information about some students’ experiences in learning and
using English
- write a paragraph about the uses of English in everyday life.
II. Competence:
- Communication, ability to use language (write a paragraph about the uses of English in
every day life.)
- Self-learning capacity: the uses of English in every day life
- Creative capacity (write a paragraph about the uses of English in every day life.).
III. Quality: hardworking, responsible and honest.
* Skills: listening and writing
* Grammar points: connectors.
B. TEACHING AIDS: Ss’ books, textbook, projector, cassette, loudspeaker
C. PROCEDURES
* Warm up: Chatting
- I. Warm up + Review:
- Chatting with ss about experiences in learning and using English and what they use English
for in their daily life
- Then introduce the new lesson.
I. Pre-listening:
1. Vocabulary (Review)
Explanation multinational (adj): đa quốc gia
Situation properly (adv): đúng mức, phù hợp
Explanation border (n): biên giới
Situation (to) get by in a language: sử dụng với gì mình có
Synonym (to) recommend: giới thiệu
-> Checking: R.O.R
II. While –listening:
* Activity 1:
- Set the scene of the listening text
- Ask ss to read the instruction of the activity carefully
- Ask ss to read the summaries and check their understanding by some questions
- Have them give their prediction
- Play the record to check
- Ask them to pair compare
- Confirm the answer:

* Activity 2:
- Ask ss to recall the listening text and discuss the questions in groups
- Play the record to check

III. Post - listening: Writing
* Activity 3:
- Ask them to work individually to make notes of four uses of English in their daily life and
give explanation/ example for each of them
- Ask them to share their ideas in groups
- Ask them to call out their uses
* Activity 4:
- Have them use the notes in 3 to write about what they use English for in their daily life
- Remind them about the word/ phrased to link the ideas
- Give them 10 minute to complete the task
- Ask them to swap
- Give correction if time is allowed
IV. Homework:
- Do part E and complete their writing again in their notebook
- Prepare: Looking back + project.

Lesson 7: Looking back + project
A. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
I. Knowledge
- Practice vocabulary and grammar points they have learnt in this unit.
- Practice making communication, project.a. Vocabulary: Vocabulary related to English in the
world. b. Grammar: Review relative clauses.
II. Competence: Groupwork, independent working, pairwork, linguistic competence,
cooperative learning and communicative competence.
III. Quality- Students have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively
participate in all classroom activities
-Students can show their kindness to their hometown, love for people around.
-Ss will be more responsible for using English to others.
B. TEACHING AIDS: Ss’ books, textbook, projector, computer accessed to the Internet, TV,
projector
C. PROCEDURES
I. Warm up: Guessing game
- T lists some cues sentences, sts guess the words and say out loud.
E.g: 1. English, Vietnamese, French (language)
2. T pretends to imitate the voice of Hanoian or Ho Chi Minh City residents. (accent)
3. T sounds some dialect languages (mô, tê, chi, nà ) (dialect)
II. Vocabulary
1. Activity 1: Underline the correct word in each sentence
- T gets sts to work independently to do exercise 1 (p40)
- Then T asks them to check their answers with a partner before discussing the answers as a
class.
Feedback: Ss give the correct answers

2. Activity 2: Read what three people say about speaking language. Fill each blank with
a phrase in the boxes (Ex2. p40).

1. Activity 1: Relative pronouns

IV. Communication
Activity 1: Complete the conversation (Ex6. p41)
- T gets sts to choose A-E to complete the following conversation. Practise the conversation
with your partner.
- First, ask sts to do the task individually to choose sentences (A-E) to complete the
conversation. - Then check their answers as a class.
- Finally, ask sts to practise the conversation with their partners
Feedback: Call on some pairs to act out conversation in front of the class

Differences between varieties of English
- T gets sts to show the completed projects they have done at home.

class to vote for the best one.

- revise and remember the knowledge they have learned (Units from 7 to 9).
- know new phrases, form of the words, etc.
II. Competence: Groupwork, independent working, pairwork, linguistic competence,
cooperative learning and communicative competence.
III. Quality- Students have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively
participate in all classroom activities
-Students can show their kindness to their hometown, love for people around.
-Ss will be more responsible for using the knowledge they have learned (Units from 7 to 9).

C. PROCEDURES
I. Warm up:
Tell the three topics you have learnt from unit 7 to unit 9.
+ Recipes and eating habits
+ Tourism
+ English in the world
I. Pronunciation:
1. Activity 1. (Ex1).
- T reviews the use of falling, rising, and falling- rising tones in statement questions, finding
out questions, making sure questions, and sentences to show new and known information.
- T plays the recording for Ss to check and repeat.
- Have some Ss read out the conversations with correct intonation.
- Give comments.
II. Vocabulary:
1. Activity 1 (Ex2)
+ Have Ss do this exercise in pairs. Check the answers as a class.

1. If you want to widen your E vocabulary, you should read short stories in English

- Elicit from the Ss the relative pronouns and their uses. Ask Ss to do this exercise individually
and compare their answers with a partner. Have some Ss read out their sentences. Correct any
mistakes.

Activity 1. T/F statements
- Have Ss read the email and decide if the statements are true or false. Ask Ss to compare their
answers with a partner before giving T the answers. Confirm the correct answers.
Ask Ss to explain the false statements.
- Have Ss do these exercises individually, check their answers with a partner before giving the
answers to teacher.
- Two Ss can write their answers on the board if time allows.

Have Ss read the notes carefully.
Play the recording for the first time.
Ss listen and fill each blank with no more than three words.
Elicit the answers from Ss and write them on the board.
Play the recording a second time for Ss to check their answers. If there are any difficulties,
play the recording a third time , stopping at sdifficult points. Confirm the correct answers.

III. Writing:
Activity 1.
Have Ss choose one of the two topics and write a paragraph. The audio script in the Listening
section can serve as writing model. It might be useful to study its structure with the Ss before
they attempt their own paragraphs.
Ask Ss to write individually.
Ask two Ss to write their paragraph on the board.
Other Ss and T give comments.
T collects some paragraphs to correct at home.
Alternatively, have Ss revise and rewrite their paragraph as homework.
For a less able class, have Ss collectively brainstorm ideas for the topics before they write.
Comment on their ideas.
Activity 2. Speaking: (P44)

Ask Ss to work in groups to discuss the questions. Have Ss report their groups’ answers to the
class. Give comments and summarise Ss’ ideas.
Ex2: Sugggeted ideas
I think participating in an English camp serves a good chance to practice speaking English
naturally as well as to experience new things. Moreover, during the camp, it is easy to make
new friends through exciting activities.
