OBJECTIVES : By the end of the lesson, students will be able to : I.Knowledge: - learn how to cook one kind of soup. - Learn vocabulary: - shallot, cube, purée , smooth sauce, tender II.Competence - Develop the students’ self-learning, problem solving, co-operation capability and communicative competence to talk about dishes, and ways of cooking food. III.Attributes: studious, responsibility and honesty, hardworking, co- operative B. TEACHING AIDS: Textbook/ projector / loudspeaker C. PROCEDURES: * Warm up: - T asks Ss to complete the sentences: + If she eats much fatty food, + If you eat healthy food, . + If you cook for me, + If you like eating pizzas, .. I. Pre-speaking: 1. Activity 1: Answer the questions: - Have Ss look at the picture and answer the questions. - T quickly elicits their answers and writes them on the board. (Do not confirm the correct answers now). - T plays the first part of the recording for Ss to check their answers. Confirm the correct one. *Key: 1. pumpkin, celery, shallot, butter, salt, cream 2. Activity 2: Listen and Gap fill: - T shows picture (Part 2b- P. 13). - T plays the recording again for Ss to do the exercise. - Have them compare their answers in pairs. - T calls on two Ss to write their answers on the board. - T asks other Ss to correct these answers if needed. - T plays the recording one more time for Ss to check their answers. Activity 1: Ordering: - Have Ss work in group to read the steps to cook the soup and try to rearrange the steps. - Ask some Ss to write their order on the board. - Play the recording for Ss to check their answers. (If Ss are not sure about any points, play the recording again). - T gets one student talk about the benefits. *Key: + a good source of fiber, and vitamins, especially vitamin A + improve your eyesight and protect yourself from certain cancers 2. Activity 2: Discission: - T asks Ss to work in groups to discuss a dish they like. - Ss take notes of the ingredients, how to prepare the dish, and the steps to cook it on a bog piece of paper. - T moves around to provide any necessary help. - Then T asks groups to stick their answers on the walls around the class. - Ask other Ss to move around to each group and listen to the group’s presentation about the dish. - Have Ss vote for the best dish and explain the reasons. III. Post-speaking: - T asks Ss to expain the meaning of the words: + shallot + cube + purée + smooth sauc + tender + garnish - T explains if necessary IV. Homework: - Learn by heart vocabulary - Do exercises Part C - Prepare: Skills 1. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to : I.Knowledge: - Read for general and specific information about the eating habits of Japanese people. - Talk about the eating habits of Vietnamese people. II.Competence - Develop the students’ self-learning, problem solving, cooperation capability and communicative competence . III.Attributes: studious, responsibility and honesty, hardworking, co- operative *Skills: listen, speak. B. TEACHING AIDS: Textbook/ projector / loudspeaker C. PROCEDURES: * Warm up: Chatting. - T asks Ss some questions: ? How often do you cook meals? ? What kind of food do you often cook? ? Do you think your dishes are good for health? ? Can you tell me some healthy food and unhealthy food? I. Pre-reading: 1. Activity 1: Answer the questions: - T asks Ss to look at the pictures (P. 14- WB) - Ss work in pairs and answer the questions: ? What can you see in the pictures? ? Have you ever tried the dishes in the pictures? If so how did you find them? - T gets some Ss to give the answer - T remarks *Suggested answers : Pic A: different types of sushi Pic B: miso soup Pic C: a bowl of rice Pic D: sliced cucumber/ pickled cucumber 2. While- reading: 1. Activity 1: Matching - Ask Ss to read the headings quickly. Make sure they understand the meaning of each heading. - Ss read the paragraphs and match them with the headings. - Ask them to compare their answers with a classmate. - Elicit their answers. * Key: A.3 B.2 C.1 Lesson plan 9 Thai Phi Hung Son Linh primary and secondary school 2022- 2023 2. Activity 2: Comprehension questions: - Have Ss work in groups of 4 to read the passage again and answer the questions. - Ss can underline parts of the text that help them with the answers. - Ask Ss to compare their answers before giving the answers to teacher. - T asks them to give evidence when giving the answers. Key: 1. They like raw food and do not use sauces with a strong flavor 2. They cut fresh fish 3. Both can be served with soy sauce 4. There are four (rice, soup, main dish, pickles). 5. Pie is the staple food and is very nutritious. 6. Because the dishes are presented in different bowls and plates, and are arranged carefully according to a traditional pattern. III. Post-reading: Speaking: This part helps Ss understand more about the eating habits of Vietnamese people. - Have Ss work in groups to discuss the eating habits of Vietnamese people. - Ss use the questions provided as cues. - T moves around the class to provide help. - Ask the groups to organize their ideas to prepare for a short presentation. - Have one group of students act as examiners and other groups as competitors. The groups take turn to present their ideas.( If there in not much time left, allow about two or three groups to present). Invite comments from the examiners. Give additional comments. IV. Homework: - Do exercises part D - Prepare: SKILLS 2. Period 60: Planning date: 04/02/2023 Unit 7: RECIPES AND EATING HABITS Lesson 6: Skills 2 A. OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to : I.Knowledge: - Listen for detailed and specific information about teenagers’ eating habits. - Practise writing about the eating habits of a classmate. II.Competence - Develop the students’ self-learning, problem solving, cooperation capability and III.Attributes: studious, responsibility and honesty, hardworking, co- operative B. TEACHING AIDS: Textbook/ projector. C. PROCEDURES: * Warm-up: - T asks work in pairs: One looks at picture A, ask the other looks at picture B on page 17: Lesson plan 9 Thai Phi Hung Son Linh primary and secondary school 2022- 2023 - Ss ask each other questions to find out the out the differences between the two pictures. - T elicits the answers from Ss. Ask them to describe the underlying meaning of the pictures. ? What do the pictures tell you? I. Pre-listening: True/False Predictions: - T presents lesson: listen to two students talking about their eating habits. - T shows T/F satements and asks Ss work in pairs : read through the statements to make sure they understand them and to underline key words. - Ss guess and T writes on the board. II. While-listening: 1. Activity 1: True/False Statements - T plays the recording, Ss listen and check their answers - Ss share the answers. - Play the recording a second time for Ss to check. Activity 2: Gap fill - Without listening to the recording again, Ss complete the table by filling each blank with no more than three words. - Have Ss compare their answers with a classmate before giving T the answers. - Ask two Ss to write their answers on the board. Post-listening: *Writing: - Ask Ss to work in pairs. - They ask and answer questions about each other’s eating habits, and take notes of their partner’s answers in the table. - After that give Ss a few minutes to read their notes again to answer the questions provided. - T should move around to give comments as there may not be enough time for checking with the whole class. - Ask Ss to write about their partner’s eating habits. - When they have finished, Ss exchange their writing to spot any mistakes. - Have Ss share the mistakes with the whole class. - T may collect some Ss’ work to mark at home, or T may ask them to rewrite the exercise as homework. In this case, remember to ask for Ss’ revised work in the next lesson. IV. Home work: - Finish your writing - Do exercises part E - Prepare: looking back + project.
