1/ Phonics:
Presentation:
(Listen and repeat)
- Ask Ss to open their books on page 15 and look at 2 words draw and star notice the letter coloured differently in both words. Tell them that they are going to learn how to pronounce them
- Pronounce correctly the sound of the letters “aw” as in arm and that of the letters “ar” as in ear.
- Repeat these two words a few times.
- Ps listen and repeat again.

Practice:
(Listen and read together)
- Draw Ps’attention to the pictures and ask them to identify the activities in the picture.
- Pre-teach: using Vietnamese
+ strawberries
+ car race
- Read each line of the chant, stop at times to check Ps’ comprehension. Then get Ps repeat each line a few times
- Read the chant again and get Ps to clap the words in focus: one clap for the words with “aw” pronounced as in “draw, strawberries” and two claps for the words with “ar” pronounced as in “car, star”.
- Model the task
- Play the recording all the way through for Ss to listen while they are reading the chant in their books clap the words.

- Ask students to look at the chart and the word box. Set the task: You are going to group the words with “aw” as in “draw” or with “ar” as in “star”
- Says each word and gets students to repeat. Recall the meaning of the words. Then lets students do the task independently
- Asks students to check their answers in pairs.
- Provides the answers and explanations
Key:
aw: Claw, law, paw, saw, prawn.
ar: Starfruit, far, car, party, bar
- Have Ps read all the words in each column in chorus.

2/ Listen and tick:
Pre-task:
Get Ps to open their books on Page 16.Tell them the purpose of listening: You are going to hear Kate, Paul, Susan and John talk about their free-time activities. You should listen, select and circle the appropriate answer.
- Get Ps to read the incomplete statements and guess the answers before they listen. Check their comprehension of the text.
- Pre-teach the key vocabulary: country, rap, pop. Write the words on the board and get Ps to repeat each item a few times.

+ Read the passage to number the pictures, tick T or F and answer the questions
+ Write about their past activities
II. Language focus:
* Vocabulary: Hoan Kiem Lake, One-Pillared Pagoda, Hue Imperial City, cable car, Ben Thanh Market, Thong Nhat Palace
* Sentence Patterns:
What did you do in Nha Trang? what did you do in Nha Trang?
- First, I went to Tri Nguyen Aquarium. Then I visited Vinpearl Land.

- Play the CD twice: once for Ps to listen all the way through and once for them to repeat. Pause after each line for Ps to repeat a few times

Pre-stage:
- Ask Ps to open their books on page 19 and read the guiding questions. Check their comprehension. Then show them how to do the task: they have to write their sentences, relying on the writing frame and the guiding questions. Remind Ps of the information in the reading passage and the use of connectors such as: First,… Then … Finally, …. Ps should draft their writing before copying onto their copy-books
