LESSON 1: FRIENDS (A 1, 2)

I. Objectives :

 Teaching aim : By the end of the lesson, students can :

  greet people and identify oneself.

  develop their reading skill.

II. Language contents :

 1. Vocabulary : different, unhappy, miss.

2. Grammar : Present simple tense.

 Comparative of adjectives.

 3. Structures : Nice to meet/see you .

 Nice to meet/see you again.

 So am I.

 Be different from

III. Techniques : eliciting, questioning & answering, role play, true/false sentences.

IV. Teaching aids : pictures for present &practice, cassette.

V . Time : 45 minutes

Vocabulary : different, unhappy, miss. 2. Grammar : Present simple tense. Comparative of adjectives. 3. Structures : Nice to meet/see you . Nice to meet/see you again. So am I. Be different from … III. Techniques : eliciting, questioning & answering, role play, true/false sentences. IV. Teaching aids : pictures for present &practice, cassette. V . Time : 45 minutes VI. Procedures : Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Warm – up - Have a chat with students. 1. What do you do during the summer vacation? 2. What do you say to your friends when you first meet after summer holidays? 3. Are you happy to be back to school again? Activity 1: Review of the greetings. - Have students look at the pictures. - Ask questions. 1. How many people are there? 2. Who are they? 3. Do you know who is a new student? 4. Guess what class they are in? - Have students listen to the tape. - Have students notice the difference between ”Nice to meet/see you” and “Nice to meet/see you” - Have students practice the dialogues. - Explain the sentence “So am I” - Have students answer the questions. Activity 2: Reading comprehension. Pre-reading - Ask students to look at the picture and ask questions. 1. How many schools are there in the picture? 2. Which school is bigger? 3. Where is Hong Ha school, in the city or in the country? - Introduce the lesson. - Explain vocabulary: different, unhappy = not happy, miss sb. While –reading. - Ask students to read the text silently - Call some students to read the text aloud. - Have students answer true/false sentences a. Hoa’s parents live in Ha Noi. b. She has more friends in Ha Noi than in Hue. c. There are a lot of students in her old school. d. Hoa is not happy in Ha Noi. - Have students read the text silently again, then answer the questions. - Call students to practice answering the questions. - Remind students of the present simple tense, the comparative of adjectives “Her new school is bigger than her old school”, and the quantities with plural nouns “ a lot, many” - Have students notice the structure “to be different from” Post –reading - Have students talk about their old school. - Call some students to display their writing. Model: My old school is Kim Dong. It is smaller than our school. It does not have many students. My new school has a lot of students. - Answer the questions. - Look at the pictures and answer the questions. 1. There are three people. 2. They are Ba, Nga, and Hoa. 3. Hoa is a new student. 4. They are in class 7A. - Listen to the tape - Listen to the teacher. - Practice the dialogues. (open pairs ª close pairs) - answer the questions. a Her name’s Hoa. b. She is in class 7A. c. Nam is also in class 7A. - Look at the picture and answer the questions. 1. There are two school. 2. Hong Ha school is bigger. 3. It’s in the city. - Listen to the teacher. - Listen and write. - Read the text silently. - Read the text aloud. - Answer true/false sentences a. F , b. T , c. F , d. T - Group works. a. She is from Hue. b. She is staying with her uncle and aunt. c. No, she doesn’t have any friends in Ha Noi. d. She is unhappy because she misses her parents and her friends. - Pair works. Listen and write. - Talk about their old school. - Write on the board. Homework 1. Reread the text and write answers in the exercise notebook. 2. Do exercises A 1,2 / p3,4 (workbook) 3. Review the greetings. 4. Write the dialogues.
