  know some activities at a recess in American schools, then compare them with those in Vietnamese schools.

  develop reading skill.

 1. Vocabulary: pen pal, energetic, score goals, portable, swap, common, relax.

III. Techniques: eliciting, describing, questioning & answering, multiple choice, slapping the board, taking a survey.

IV. Teaching aids: pictures for presentation, handouts for practice, cassette.

V. Time: 45 minutes

Procedures: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Warm – up. - Have students Slap the board recess, chat, skip rope , play blindman’s bluff, play catch, play marbles. - Ask question What do you usually do at recess? Pre – reading. - Have students match what activities American students do, what activities American students do, and what activities students in both countries do at recess. 1. play basketball 2. play catch 3. read or study at the same time 4. eat 5. skip rope 6. talk with friends 7. listen to music 8. play marbles 9. swap the basketball cards 10. drink Vietnamese students: American students: Students in both countries: - Pre-teach vocabulary 1. pen pal (n) 2. energetic (adj) ª energetic students 3. score goals (v) 4. portable (adj) ª a portable CD player 5. swap (v) = exchange 6. common (adj) 7. relax (v) While – reading. - Ask students to read the text silently and check pre-reading prediction. - Ask students to give feedback - Check students’ answers. Vietnamese students: 2, 4, 5, 6, 8. American students: 1, 3, 4, 7, 9.
