UNIT 5: WONDERS OF VIET NAM Lesson 6: Skills 2 I. OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Knowledge: - Listen for specific information about a natural wonder of Viet Nam. - Write an article describing a wonder of Viet Nam. 2. Ability - During lesson students can develop listening and writing skills. - Develop independent working cooperative learning and communicative competence. 3. Qualities. - industriouness, responsibility, honesty. B. Teaching aids: - Teacher’s aids: student book and teacher’s book, computer and loudspeaker. - Students’ aids: Student books, notebooks. C. Procedures I. Warm-up: Chatting ( T- ss) - Have you ever visited Ha Long Bay? - Where is it located? - Do you think it is a place of interest? - Lead to the lesson. II. Pre-listening: 1. T/F statement prediction: ( ex 1 p57) - - Ask Ss to read the instruction carefully and remind them to underline the key words in the statements. - Ss guess which statement is T/ F. (individual) - Give the answer. III. While- reading: 1. Check Ss’prediction: - Play the recording ss listen and check their answer. - Correct and give feedback. - Key: 1-T ;2-F ; 3-T ; 4-T 2. Gap fill: (Ex 2-p 57- Listen again and complete the data chart) - Ss work in pairs to discuss the missing word for each gap from the information they have heard in 1. . - Play the recording again and allow Ss to f ll in the gaps as they listen. *************************************************************************** ENGLISH LESSON PLAN : GRADE 9 Son Linh Primary & Secondary School School Year 2022 – 2023 *********************************************************************** - Ask Ss to share their answers in pairs before playing the recording the final time to allow pairs to check their answers. - If time is limited, T may play only the sentences that include the information Ss need for their answers. Writing an article to describe a wonder of Viet Nam: ( group work) - First, have Ss study the guidelines on how to write a passage describing a place in the REMEMBER! box. - Set up the writing activity. Ss should use their notes in 3 and the notes in the REMEMBER! box to help them to structure their writing. - T can also help them get started by writing the opening sentence on the board, based on the audio script: It is said that [wonder] is a [adjective] place - If there is not enough time ss can finish at home. V. Knowledge By the end of this lesson, students will be able to: - use words related to a place of interest. - Use impersonal passive and the verb suggest + V-ing/clause with should to talk about wonders of Viet Nam II. Ability : - Developing communication skills and creativity - Demonstrating pairwork skills III. Quality : - Students have positive attitude in English language learning to participate in all classroom activities with the topic “ Wngders of Viet Nam”. - Having responsibility for protecting the wonders of Viet Nam. - Build their love for community, country and the world. B. TEACHING AIDS - Teacher’s aids: student book and teacher’s book - Students’ aids: Student books, notebooks, workbooks. C. PROCEDURE I. Knowledge: - Know some lexical items related to changes in transport systems, family groups and school life in Viet Nam in the past and present. - Understand the conversation 2 Competence: - Communication, ability to use language (interview teachers about the school in the past) 3.Self-learning capacity( find information about the shool in the past) -Creative capacity ( making a discussion ) -Quality: hardworking, responsible and honest love their own school. 4. New lesson: *************************************************************************** ENGLISH LESSON PLAN : GRADE 9 Son Linh Primary & Secondary School School Year 2022 – 2023 *********************************************************************** * Set the scene: - Write the word "Past and Present" on the board and ask Ss to give another expression for the phrase. When they have given the phrase Then and Now, ask them to look at the picture and the heading. Our school in the past and ask them some questions: • Who can you see in the picture? • Where do you think they are? • Is there anything in the small pictures on the wall relates to past and present? Ss give their answer as a class. T can write their ideas on the board Play the recording and have Ss follow along. After that, Ss can compare their answers with the information in the dialogue. 1. Activity 1: a. Matching: - Ss work in pairs to label the pictures with the words given. Allow pairs to share their answers before asking them to discuss as a class. Then ask some Ss to read the words aloud and correct their pronunciation if necessary. Key: 1. trench 2. tiled roof 3. facilities 4. photo exhibition 5. rubber sandals 6. thatched house b. Find a word/phrase in the conversation that means: - Have Ss work independently. Ss find the words/ phrases with the given meaning in the conversation. Read the statements and decide whether the information is T, False or NG - Ss read the dialogue again to do this exercise. Ss exchange their answers with a classmate. Activity 2: Complete each sentence with a word from the Look out! box which has the same meaning as the words in brackets: - Have Ss read the REMEMBER! box individually. Then go through the points as a class and see if any Ss can make sentences using these adjectives and adverbs. Afterwards, ask Ss to work individually on the gap-fill exercise. Activity 3: Interview your teacher about features of your school when he/she started teaching here. - Now ask Ss to think about their own school's history. First, have pairs write a couple of questions about the school in the past that they would like to ask T. Then, as a whole class T can answer questions from Ss about the school when she/ he started teaching. The aim is to generate a short discussion. Now have Ss work in small groups to talk about the changes to the school. Ask them to use the adjectives and adverbs in REMEMBER! box. T can tell Ss that they can talk about. + the school principal and school teachers + the school playground + the library + the computer room + the classroom III.
