AIMS OF THE LESSON: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to: I. Knowledge and skills - Read for specific information about the features of cities. - Talk about important features of a city. II. Competence - improve their 2 skills (Main skill: Reading; Sub-skill: speaking.) - develop the ability to cooperate with their partners, to self-study, to solve problems in real situation... III. Attributes - have positive attitude in English language learning to participate in all classroom activities with the topic “city life” B. TEACHING AIDS - Teacher’s aids: student book and teacher’s book, class CDs, flashcards, projector - Students’ aids: Student books, notebooks, workbooks. C. PROCEDURE I. Warm up: - Greetings - Talk about the city you like best. II. The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) 2. 2014 3. - The best city: Melbourne - The worst cities: Dhaka, Tripoli, and Douala Activity 2: Answer the questions - Run through the questions. - Ask Ssto read the passage again and find answers to the questions. - Ss compare their answers in pairs. - Check and confirm the correct answers. * Key: 1. Climate, transport, education, safety, and recreational facilities for cities (are used). 2. Among the top twenty. 3. Because the living conditions there were the most difficult or dangerous. 4. Post reading: Speaking - Have Ss work in groups of five to discuss about the most "livable" city in Viet Nam. - T moves around the class and helps Ss if necessary. - One student from each group presents their opinion. - T gives feedback. V. Homework: - Learn by heart vocabulary - Ask Ss to work in groups of six to conduct a survey to rank their own town/ city, then present the final result of their group to the class in the next lesson. AIMS OF THE LESSON: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to: I. Knowledge and skills - listen for specific information about some problems of city life - Write a paragraph about the disadvantages/drawbacks of city life II. Competence - improve their listening, writing skill - develop the ability to cooperate with their partners, to self-study, to solve problems in real situation. - present some places of interest in the city life. III. Attributes - have positive attitude in English language learning to participate in all classroom activities with the topic “city life” B. TEACHING AIDS - Teacher’s aids: student book and teacher’s book, class CDs, flashcards, projector - Students’ aids: Student books, notebooks, workbooks. C. PROCEDURE I. Warm up: - Give out some drawbacks in a city: (Listening 1- p 23) - Ss work in small groups thinking or recalling /imagining the nuisances/problems they have experienced in the city. II. Listening Activity 1: Listen and write the missing words - T elicits from Ss the words “Bangkok – Thailand”, asks Ss to talk about this city. - Encourage them to share anything that they know about it, and ask them if they know any problems people have to deal with. - Ss guess the missing words in Listening 2- p, 23 - Play the recording one or two times. Ask Ss to listen carefully and write down the words they hear in the passage. Key: 1 cities 2. office 3. traffic 4. roads Activity 2: Listen and choose the best answer - Play the recording again. - Ss take notes/write down the key words as they listen. - Ss choose the correct answers as required. *************************************************************************************** ENGLISH LESSON PLAN : GRADE 7 Son Linh Primary & Secondary School School Year 2022 – 2023 ************************************************************************************** - Correct as a class. Audio script: Suzanne lives in Bangkok with her husband and two children. Her office is seven km away but it takes her two hours to get there by car every day. "Some cities have problems with pollution, crime, or bad weather - here we have traffic jams," she says. Before going to the office, she has to take her children to school - so she sets off at 5 am. The children sleep until they arrive at school. Then Suzanne begins her journey to the office. In the evening the traffic is even worse. Traffic moves in the city center at half a kilometer an hour. In rainy weather it doesn't move at all. But why is it so bad? In the past, more people moved around Bangkok by boat. Now so many people have a car, and there aren't enough roads in the city. The Sky train and metro can help a bit, but they are limited in range and don't cover all parts of the city. III. Writing Activity 1: Read and complete the outline - Ss read the sample paragraph carefully and complete the outline. - Tell them to pay attention to the connectors/markers: Firstly, Secondly, Thirdly. Outline: Topic sentence: Living in a city has a member of drawbacks. Problem 1: traffic jams and traffic accidents Problem 2: air pollution Problem 3: noise/noise pollution Conclusion: These factors contribute to making city life more difficult for its residents. Activity 4:Write a paragraph - Work in group: Ss write the paragraph in about 100 words. Make sure that they use their outline, along with connectors first/firstly, second/secondly, and pay attention to spelling and punctuation. - Ss can use the passage in 4 to help them structure their paragraph. - T may collect some Ss' papers and mark them, then give comments to the class. Suggestion: There are a lot of disadvantages of living in a big city, air pollution is among the most serious problems. *************************************************************************************** ENGLISH LESSON PLAN : GRADE 7 Son Linh Primary & Secondary School School Year 2022 – 2023 ************************************************************************************** Firstly, air pollution comes from the factories in the city. Big cities attract a lot of both inside and outside investments, so the number of factories is increasing quickly. This makes the air extremely polluted by smoke from factories. Secondly, that there are too many transportation means also makes this problem worse. Exhaust from cars, motorbike is one of the factors that make the air polluted. Finally, the city is noisy. Noise pollution comes from machines, vehicles, industrial factories. It may affect the mind, health and behavior. It may cause physically discomfort and temporary or permanent damage to hearing. It causes headache and irritability. It may cause deafness, stress and high-blood pressure To conclude, air pollution, which contributes to making more and more people get many serious diseases, such as lung cancer, tuberculosis and so on, is a big drawback of city life. Activity 3: Correction (optional) -T shows their writing in front of the class. -T and Ss comment, correct if necessary. IV. AIMS OF THE LESSON: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to: I. Knowledge and skills - Review all things they have learnt so far: Vocabulary, Grammar, Communication - Present their project in front of the class II. Competence - Group work, independent working, pair work, linguistic competence, cooperative learning and communicative competence. III. Attributes - have positive attitude in English language learning to participate in all classroom activities with the topic “city life” B. TEACHING AIDS - Teacher’s aids: student book and teacher’s book, class CDs, flashcards, projector - Students’ aids: Student books, notebooks, workbooks. C. PROCEDURE I. Warm up: Chatting II. Vocabulary Activity1: Complete the word webs - Give Ss a few minutes to complete the word web. T may give some cues/examples: - street - crowded - gallery - shopping mall - cosmopolitan - exciting Activity 2: Complete the passage - Ss read the passage and complete this exercise individually. - Some Ss read the passage aloud - sentence by sentence. - Check and confirm the correct answers. (has) turned down 2. going on 3. get over 4. cheered up 5. turn back 6. found out Activity 5: Rewrite the sentences - This task helps Ss use structures with phrasal verbs to rewrite sentences. - Let other Ss give comments. Then check as a class. Key: 1. Turn off the lights when you leave the classroom. 2. Mai grew up in a small town in the south. 3. Kathy looked up the restaurant on her mobile phone. 4. My grandmother has got over her operation. 5. We are looking forward to seeing you again. IV. Communication: Activity 6 - First, make sure Ss know the names of the cities in Viet Nam. - Divide the class into two teams to play the game. Encourage them to be as quick as possible, and try to call out famous man-made or natural attractions, or features of different cities in the country. When time is up, stop the game and congratulate the winning team. REFERENCE: Five centrally controlled cities in Viet Nom: - Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Can Tho 62 provincial cities: MongCai, Dien Bien, Vinh, Buon Ma Thuot, Ca Mau, Phan Thiet... V. PROJECT - Ss present what they have written to the class. - The class gives comments VI.
