Lesson 1.3 : Pronunciation and Speaking (P.48)
A.OBJECTIVES:
By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
I. Knowledge
- pronounce the /st/ sound correctly
- talk about public services in their town
II. Competences
- improve speaking and reading skills
- develop the ability to communicate and cooperate with their partners, to self - study
III. Attributes:
- have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively participate in all
classroom activities, especially with the topic “Community services” conducted by the teacher
- have awareness of protecting/ saving the environment
II. TEACHING EQUIPMENT AND LEARNING MATERIALS.
Lesson plan, PPT slides, student’s book, workbook, notebook, lap top. TV screen
B. PROCEDURES
* Warm up: Game “BINGO”
-T explains the rules of the game:
- T gives each S / each pair a small piece of paper and get them to write seven words relating to
community services.
- Show word by word on the screen (randomly)
- Have Ss use a red pen to check whether the words on the screen are the same as those in their
paper
- The first student / pair to get all 5 words from the screen will say “BINGO” and be the winner
of the game
- Give a small gift to the winner
- Lead to the new lesson.
I. PRE - SPEAKING
1.Pronunciation: Focus the /st/ sound.
- Briefly explain the pronunciation
- Play the audio and draw attention to the pronunciation of the sound of the underlined letter
(CD2 -04)
- Play the audio again and ask Ss to listen and repeat the words given.
- Correct the mistake if necessary.
- Have students work in pairs taking turn saying the words.
- Walk around and correct the mispronunciation if any.
- Call some Ss to read in front of the class
- Give feedback if necessary.
2.Set the scene

- T gets sts to look at these pictures and sets the scene to get students familiar with the situation.
- T makes some questions related to the content of the dialogue
- What is it?
- Is there a park / a train station near your house ?
- What is there in your neighborhood?
- T tells sts that they are going to talk about public services.
II. WHILE – SPEAKING.
1. Controlled practice 1: Dialogue build

Excuse me, is there a train station near here? Yes, the train station is on King’s street.
It’s opposite the school.
Thanks. Oh, and is there a library near here? Yes, the library is on Queen’s Street. It’s
next to the park.
Great. Thank you.
- Have Ss work in pairs.
- Demonstrate the activity by practicing the role - play with a student.
- Have students practice the conversation.
- Ask students swap the role and repeat
- Swap the role and repeat using the prompts/ cues on the right. (Closed pairs)
- Have some pairs demonstrate the activity in front of the class
- Give feedback if necessary.

2.Controlled practice 2: Speaking
a.You’re visiting a new town. Work in pairs. Student A, stay on this page (page 48) and
answer Student B’s questions about Maple Falls. Students B, go to page 122 (File 5)
- Set Ss ready for the activity by checking if they really know what they are going to do.
- Have Ss review the target language learnt earlier so that weaker Ss can catch up with the
other Ss.
- Remind Ss that they should pay attention to their pronunciation and the conversation skills.
- Demonstrate a role play activity with a faster S using the cues given in the book.
- Have Ss practice speaking the conversations in pairs.
- Go around the class and give support if any.
- Have some pairs demonstrate the role- play in front of the class.
b. Student A, look at the map of Fair View and ask about these places: post office,
library and train station. Add them to the map.
- Have Ss get ready for the task.
- Have Ss practice the conversation.
- Have some pairs role-play the conversation in front of the class.
- Go around and give support if any.
- Give feedback.
III. POST- SPEAKING.
* Chain game
- T gets 4 volunteered sts to come to the board and in turns, saying one sentence about their
neighborhood.
Ex: S1: I live in a house in Huong Son district.
S2: I live in a house in Huong Son district. There is a bakery to the left of my house.
S3:
- Give feedback and evaluation.
IV. HOMEWORK
- Practice pronouncing the /st/ sound.
- Do exercises in workbook (page 32-33) .
- Prepare : Unit 6 – Lesson 2 New words + Reading (p.49)

Lesson 2.1: New words + Reading (P 49).
A. OBJECTIVES:
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to :
I. Knowledge
- know more vocabularies and give tips about how to save the environment.
- Use positive and negative imperatives.
II. Competences:
- Improve the use of English , Reading skill and speaking skill.
- Develop their communication skill, creativity, cooperation, self- studying and problem
solving.
III. Attributes:
- have positive attitude in English language learning so that they actively participate in how to
save the environment
- relax after hard working time at school.
B. TEACHING AIDS AND LEARNING MATERIALS
Lesson plan, PPT slides, student’s book, workbook, notebook, laptop, TVscreen.
C. PROCEDURES
* Warm up : Network of words
- Have Ss work in groups to find out as many as possible words that belong to rubbish.
RUBBISH
- Have Ss give answers
- T gives feedback.
Suggested answers
Rubbish: old books, newspaper, old pens, bottles, , old clothes
-> T leads to new lesson.
I. PRE- READING:
1. Activity 1: Vocabulary:

- Ask each group to read out the answer.

- T corrects Ss’ pronunciation (if necessary).
2. Activity 2: True/ False Statements:
1. We should reuse glass bottles .
2. We shouldn’t throw glass jars away.
3. It’s difficult to recycle paper
4. We can make where we live look better.

Lesson 2.2: Grammar (P.50)
A. OBJECTIVES: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to :
I. Knowledge:
- review words of community services
- use imperatives to give instructions, orders, or advice.
II. Competences:
- Co-operation
- Self- study
- Use language to talk about community services
3. Attributes: - Be positive about their actions to the communities
- know how to learn English in right way.
- Be interested in doing exercises.
B. TEACHING AIDS AND LEARNING MATERIALS
Lesson plan, PPT slides, student’s book, workbook, notebook, laptop, TVscreen.
* TEACHING METHODS: Communicative approach, group Ss and T’s activities, play as a
character, teaching methods with game, teaching methods by visual, teaching methods by
practising, discussion group, technical present .
B. PROCEDURES:
*Warm-up: Re-matching
- Teacher shows a picture of types of reused together with the
wrong words, and students have to rematch.
- Display the flashcards of letters on the board.
- Some students volunteer to stick a word that matches with the picture.
- One plus mark for every student having a correct answer.
Teacher gives feedback, then leads to the new lesson.
New lesson
- Ask students if they often do to recycle things at home.
I. PRESENTATION.
Listen & repeat (exercise a/ p. 50)
- Teacher asks students to list recycling that he / she does every day
Suggested answer:
- She should reuse old cans to grow trees in.

- Teacher underlines the verbs, introduces and elicits the ways to use imperative sentences.
- Students follow and answer teacher’s questions
- Teacher gives some more examples for students to change into imperatives (positive and
negative form)
Ex: You should recycle cans.
→ Recycle cans.
We should not litter on the beach.
→ Don’t litter on the beach.
II. PRACTICE.
1. Activity 1: fill in the blanks with positive or negative
imperative statements. (exercise b/ p. 50)
- Have students work in pairs; use the verbs given to fill in the blanks in the imperatives.
- Teacher asks some pairs to show their answers.

Ask some students to check the answers.

2. Activity 2: Rewrite the imperative sentences. (exercise c/ p. 50)
- Have students work in pairs, practice writing the whole sentences using the positive or
negative imperative.
Some students who finish quickly go to the board to write the answers.

- Students work in groups. Use the same format of the letter in exercise d/ p. 50 to talk about

- Some students share the story to the class
The winner will get 1 point for him / her.
IV. HOMEWORK:
-Write about the environmental protection at your home using imperatives.
- Prepare: Pronunciation + Speaking (P.51)
