1.Identify the situation for the conversation between teacher and Akiko(setting,
participants, topics);
2. Interviewtheir friends about asking and answering questions about where someone
is from, using the sentence patterns “What nationality are you? − I’m ____.”
3.Show interests and love to their friends and their teachers by using using
appropriate gestures and intonation when asking and answering about each other’s
nationality.

STAGE 3: LEARNING EXPERIENCES/ LEARNING PLAN
Warmer: Greeting and sing a song
‘’ Where are you from?’’ Invite two groups to sing and mime the song.
- Tell students that they are going to read a dialogue in which students say and
respond about each other’s nationality.
Activity 1: Look, listen and repeat
- Ask students to look at the fourpictures (page 14) and answer questions to identify the
situation for the conversation.
1. Who are they? (They are teacher and Akiko)
2. Where are they? (At school)
3. What are they talking?(They’re are talking about their nationality).
- Ask students to look at picture c (Activity 1) (page 14 ) and answer the following
questions:
4. What does teacher ask? (What nationality are you?)
5. What does Akiko answer? (I’m from Japanese.)
- Elicit the sentence patterns:“What nationality are you? − I’m ____.”
- Play the recording more than once, if necessary, ask students to listen and repeat the
dialogue
- Do choral and individual repetition, pointing to the characters speaking.
- Play the recording again for students to listen and repeat.
Activity 2: Controlled & guided practice
Task 1: Point and say
- Use pictures to elicit: Nationality, Japanese, Vietnamese, English, Australian,
Malaysian, American, English.
- Point to the first picture and model the task with one student, using the expressions in
the bubbles and the word under the picture.
Teacher: What nationality are you?
Student: I ‘m VietNamese
- Ask students to say the phrases chorally and individually. Repeat the same procedure
with the rest of the pictures.
- Ask students to practice in pairs, using the prompts in the bubbles and the pictures.

- Call on some pairs to role-play the dialogue in front of the class. Monitor the activity
and offer help, if necessary.

What nationality are you?.
- S answer and T corrects
- Have class goes around and ask friends.

- Ask students to answer the following questions:

- Ask students to look at the fourpictures (page 15) and answer questions to identify the
situation for the conversation.
- Have pupils look at pictures a, b, c and d on page of the Student Book. Elicit the
identification of the characters in the pictures and the characters’ words. Tell pupils
that they are going to listen to the recording and number the pictures they hear.
- Play the recording 2 times pupils to listen and number the boxes.
- Play the recording again pupils check their answers. T gives the answer.
- Ask some questions to ensure pupils’ comprehension of the listening text.

- Have Ss read in groups/ in pairs.

- Tell ss that they are going to complete the dialogue below.
- Have them work in groups of 4 to discuss what they are going to write. Focus ss on
their names, nationality. Check comprehension.

- Tell ss that they are going to make a name card for themselves and then draw a flag
- Give ss time to do the project in class. Get ss to work individually. Go around to
offer help. Call some ss to the front of the class to look at their cards and tell the
teacher about him/ her.
