OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: I. Knowledges - listen to and understand a short conversation between 2 people comparing time to celebrate Christmas in different countries. - use “different from” and “like” correctly. II. Competences - improve speaking, listening and writing skills. - improve the use of English. III. Attributes - be active to take part in outdoor activities. - respect cultures and tradition of home-country and other countries in the world. B. TEACHING AIDS AND LEARNING MATERIALS 1. Teacher’s aids: Student book and Teacher’s book, lap top, TV, PowerPoint slides, handouts. 2. Students’ aids: Student’s book, workbook, notebook. C. PROCEDURES I. Warm up What festival / holiday is it? - Have Ss close all books. - Have Ss answer the question: What festival / holiday is it? - For each festival / holiday, T gives 3 clues. Ss guess the name of the festival / holiday from the first clue to the last one. - Call Ss to give answers, give marks or present to the Ss who can have the right answer from the first clue. - Give feedback. - Lead to the new lesson. *Illustration: II. Listen and repeat. - Have Ss look at the picture using DCR. - Play audio (CD2 – Track 08) and have Ss listen and read the speech bubbles. - Play the audio again and have Ss listen and repeat. Grammar box - Have Ss look at the grammar explanation, examples and read: “different from” and “like”. - Briefly explain the grammar point. - Ask Ss to make sentences with “different from” and “like”. - Give feedback and evaluation III. Practice Task b. Unscramble the sentences. - Demonstrate the activity on DCR, using the example. - Have Ss unscramble the sentences. - Have Ss work in pairs to check each other’s work. - Have some Ss share their answers with the whole class. - Give feedback, correct Ss’ answers if necessary. Task c. OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to: I. Knowledges - distinguish and pronounce the /ɪ/ sound correctly. - compare traditions in different countries. - compare how different Vietnamese traditions are to the traditions in South Korea and Mongolia. II. Competences - improve listening and speaking skills III. Attributes - respect family traditions. - respect cultures and tradition of home-country and other countries in the world. B. TEACHING AIDS AND LEARNING MATERIALS 1. Teacher’s aids: Student book and Teacher’s book, lap top, TV, PowerPoint slides, handouts. 2. Students’ aids: Student’s book, workbook, notebook. C. Listen to the words and focus on the underlined letters. - Play the recording (CD2, track 9). - Ask Ss to listen and focus on the underlined letters. - Play the recording again, have Ss listen and repeat with a focus on the sound feature. - Explain more about how to pronounce the /ɪ/ sound: The lips are relaxed and the central/front area of the tongue is in the central/high area of the mouth for this sound. The overall neutrality and relaxed tongue and lip position is why it is one of the pronunciations used in an unstressed vowel position. b. Listen to the /ɪ/ sound. Cross out the word that doesn’t follow the note in “a”. - Play the recording (CD 2 – Track 10), have Ss listen to the /ɪ/ sound, then cross out the word that doesn’t follow the note in “a”. - Call Ss to give answers. - Play the recording again and check answer as a whole class using DCR. - Give feedback and evaluation. II. While-speaking: 1. Take turns comparing the traditions in different countries. - Demonstrate the activity on DCR using the examples. - Divide the class into pairs. - Have pairs take turns comparing the traditions in different countries. - Have some pairs demonstrate the activity in front of the class. - Give feedback and evaluation.
