Teaching aids : a table of numbers & a calendar for presentation and practice, cassette. V . Time : 45 minutes VI. Procedures : Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Warm – up - Have students play the game “ Lucky Numbers” Answer the questions. 1. What’s Tam’s telephone number? 2. Who’s telephoning Tam? 3. LUCKY NUMBER. 4. Will Phong be free tomorrow evening? 5. What will they do? 6. LUCKY NUMBER. 7. What time will they meet? 8. What time will the movie start? 9. LUCKY NUMBER. 10. Where will they meet? 11. How will they get there? 12. What does Phong say at the end of the dialogue? Presentation - Have students count from 1 to 31. - Ask students to look at section 1/p.24 - Play the tape for students once. - Elicit the new material: form (cardinal numbers + th) and usage. - Have students pay attention to the special ordinal numbers: First (1st), Second (2nd), Third (3rd), Fifth (5th), Ninth (9th), Twelfth (12th), Twentieth (20th) - Play the tape for students twice more. Practice ¯ Activity 1 (Practice reading the ordinal numbers). - Have students read the ordinal numbers. ¯ Activity 2 (Practice listening) - Ask students to look at section 2/p.24. - Ask question What’s this? It’s a calendar. - Guide students to listen to the tape. - Play the tape for students - Ask students to cross-check the answers. - Supply the correct answers. ¯ Activity 3 (Practice using the dates and reviewing the months) - Ask question. How many months are there in a year? There are 12 months in a year. - Ask students to look at the section 3/p.24. - Ask students to read the jumble months in the table. - Have students rearrange them in order. - Ask students to cross-check the answers. - Call some students to write the answers on the board. Production - Have students practice reading the dates of some Great Holidays in Viet Nam or in the world. a. 3/2 b. 8/3 c. 26/3 d. 30/4 e. 1/5 f. 1/6 g. 20/11 h. 2/9 i. 19/8 j. 25/12. - Guide students how to read the dates. - Ask students to say their birthday. - Play the game. - Answer the questions - Count the cardinal numbers - Look and listen to the tape. - Listen to the teacher and take notes. - Listen to the tape - Read. - Look and answer the questions. - Listen to the tape - Cross-check the answers. - Correct and write the answers. 1.
