Language contents: 1. Vocabulary: celebrate. 2. Grammar: Present simple tense. 3. Structures: (none) III. Techniques: eliciting, describing, questioning & answering, role play. IV. Teaching aids: pictures, cassette. V. Time: 45 minutes VI. Procedures: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Warm – up. ¯ Networks Holidays / Vacations in Viet Nam Suggested answers - The Lunar New Year’s Day (TET Holiday) - Independence Day (2/9) - Victory Day (30/4) - May Day (1/5) - Teacher’s Day (20/11) - Women’s Day (8/3) - Viet Nam People’s Army Day (22/12) Pre – reading. - Have students match the name of the public holiday with picture. a. Thanksgiving. b. Independence Day. c. New Year’s Day. d. Christmas. - Have students look at the letter and answer the questions. a. Do you know what it is? ª a letter. b. Who writes the letter? ª Tim writes the letter. c. Who gets the letter? ª Hoe gets the letter. - Elicit the vocabulary: - celebrate (v) - a few ª fewer (than) - many ª more (than) While – reading. - Ask students to read the letter silently - Have students do true/false sentences a. There are very few vacations in America. b. The longest vacation in America is in the summer. c. The New Year on January 1 is their Tet holiday. d. Their most important vacations are Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas. - Ask students to give feedback a. F b. T c. F d. T - Have students read the letter again to answer the questions. - Ask students to give the answers. a. Summer vacation is the longest in America. b. During his vacation, Tim spends time with his family. c. Vietnamese students have fewer vacations than American ones. - Have students ask and answer the questions. Post – reading. - Ask students to look at the dates and say the name of the holidays and vacations. 1/1 , 2/9 , 30/4 , 25/12 , 20/11 8/3 , 22/12 , 1/5 , 1/6 , 19/5 - Have students write the answers into the notebook. - Group works. - Team competition - Look and answer the questions. - Listen and write. - Read silently - Group works. - Give feedback - Pair works. - Closed and open pairs. - Look and say (Individually) - Write. Homework 1. Learn by heart the names of holidays and vacations. 2. Reread the letter and answer the questions.
